Cultural sustainability is a challenging but useful concept when sustainability is understood to include ecological, economical, social and cultural dimensions. Cultural sustainability can mean for example communality and participation to cultural practises, continuation and revitalisation of traditions and presence of history in contemporary life. The guestions of cultural sustainability are higlighted when discussing interculturalism and cultural identity in communities of diverse cultures. Huhmarniemi will discuss wicked problems of cultural sustainability in Finnish Lapland.
