Europe’s Readiness for the AI Takeover: Some Salient Points and Comments from the EC’s White Paper on AI

Abstract

The fact that artificial intelligence (AI) is fast becoming
a part of our daily life has made its regulation a necessity.
In light of this, the European Commission (EC) recently
released a White Paper detailing its approach to AI
regulation in Europe.1 The White Paper was drafted in
acknowledgement of the immense benefits of AI as well
as the risks attendant to its usage. This article discusses
the White Paper in an attempt to highlight salient points
and policy directions, with comments being made where
necessary. The overall objective of this article will be an
examination of Europe’s readiness for the imminent AI
takeover.
