Hong’s doctoral research has been dedicated to applying design thinking to investigate how intensive technologies can be redesigned and humanized to support new and positive human experiences. Particularly, she focuses on mediating emotional communication through unconventional user interfaces that use interaction solutions beyond conventional use for couples in serious long-distance romantic relationships.
Hong has a multicultural and multidisciplinary background. She studied Japanese Business and Culture at Hokkaido University as a Japanese Government Scholarship student. She was awarded the Degree of Master of Design in Design for Services by the University of Dundee, UK. Currently, Hong is a doctoral candidate in the Culture-based Service Design Programme at the University of Lapland in Finland. Her research is fully funded by the China Scholarship Council.
